1) Can you quickly describe your blog and introduce yourself ?
My name's Diane and I'm a 23 year old Library & Information Science student living in Northern California (more specifically, the Bay Area). I started Darling Darling around the same time I began selling vintage clothing online; I thought that the blog would be a nice accompaniment to the shop but it slowly progressed into a mish-mash of personal interests, sporadic fashion musings, and outfit posts. It's terribly fun and addicting and takes too much time away from requisite but neglected schoolwork.
2) Where do you get your inspiration ?
My number one inspiration would probably be other bloggers! I read a buttload of fashion and style blogs so my mind is always inundated with outfits that other people have worn. Little bits and pieces of a particular blogger's outfit will sneak into mine - it can range from doing my own interpretation on a blogger's entire ensemble or just incorporating little things I see around the blogosphere like bowties or a specific type of skirt. We are all aware of the fact that fashion is cyclical. Designers are always taking inspiration from other designers, past eras, etc. so it just seems natural that bloggers take inspiration from each other as well!
3) What is your favorite movie / song / book ?
Song: I don't think I have one and in order to come up with one, I'd have to think long and hard about it. But since we don't have time for all that dilly-dallying, I'm going to go ahead and pick the first thing that comes to mind when you say "favorite song." And...it...is...David...Bowie's "Space Oddity"! Yes, that is what my mind has pulled out of the "favorite song" hole of my brain; so it was written, so it shall be done. For serious, though, I can listen to "Space Oddity" over and over, plus it's so much fun to sing in the shower or alone while driving. There is a particular line in the song, "And I think my spaceship knows which way to go," that never ceases to give me chills whenever I hear Mr. Stardust sing it.
Book: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This is a complete default answer since I haven't read it since college but I've always thought it was a lovely book. One day, I will re-read it and I have no doubt that the experience will only reaffirm its "favorite book" status with me.
4) How much do you spend on clothes every month, on average?
Probably about $40 on myself. I almost exclusively shop at thrift stores and most of the clothes I get there go directly to my Etsy shop (but there's always a few pieces that I can't help but keep for myself!). Then there are those weird-o times in my life where I see something online that's $80-$100 and I simply have to have it! This has only happened once or twice so I'm speaking the truth when I say those are weird-o times for me when I suddenly splurge.
5) What's your fashion philosophy ?
I don't think I have a fashion philosophy, really. I mean, as aforementioned, I almost exclusively buy used or vintage clothes; I could say that this is a philosophy but it's not something that I set ground rules for. It just happens to be that way because I'm a cheapskate. I like to buy cheap things and create outfits on a tight budget. And to comment on the "fashion is superficial" belief, I've long ago had to abandon this idea in order to fully realize my love of clothes and putting together outfits. I think fashion is terribly fun and if something I find fun and exciting is superficial, then so be it.
6) Do you have icons ?
Not really, no. There are models that I certainly do adore (i.e. Darya Kurovska, Valentine Fillol Cordier) but my fixations on them come and go. I find my heroes and heroines in books.
7) When it comes to fashion, what would you never wear ?
Never say never! I just caught myself buying a pair of clunky platform lace up boots when I swore that I'd never buy platformed shoes again (oh, horrific '90s childhood days). But when it comes to ridiculous things like crocs with dressy clothes or ties over t-shirts, I'd have to say I'm against them! Who knows, though, I can wake up tomorrow and think that wearing crocs with everything is the best sartorial choice ever. Of course, I'd have to wonder what happened to me overnight to make me think such things.
8) A small list of other blogs you love ?
